China Education Equipment Purchasing Network News: According to recent news from the Ministry of Science and Technology, a large-scale research project funded by 27 research institutions in 8 EU countries, Switzerland and 2 African countries is funded by the EU Seventh R & D Framework Program (FP7) -Significant progress was made in the "EU Anti-Virus Project". The project has successfully developed a new type of antiviral substance (microbicide) that is inexpensive and capable of combating HIV, and is expected to become an effective weapon for overcoming the world's persistent disease, AIDS.
Antiviral substances can effectively prevent the spread of HIV. There are two technical routes used in the project. One is sugar nanoparticle technology, which uses nanoparticles to imitate the hydrocarbon structure on the cell surface to block the hydrocarbon-protein interaction in the infection mechanism. At present, the project has successfully developed three monoclonal antibodies and is conducting clinical trials to further examine the drug's response to the human body, determine the safe dose, and test the drug's toxic and side effects. The active ingredients of antiviral substances are plant derivatives. The project has passed Phase I clinical trials, and Phase II and Phase III clinical trials are expected to be completed in a relatively short period of time.
The antiviral substance will eventually be made into a paste or jelly to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. For example, entering the vagina before sexual intercourse can enable women to effectively prevent HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases without using condoms. Its principle of action: First, a physical isolation barrier is formed between the virus and the vaginal cell wall. Second, the active ingredients of the drug can destroy the outer layer of the virus, prevent the virus from multiplying, and prevent the virus from binding the target cell.
