New progress has been made in the study of species diversity in Banna Botanical Garden

Studying species distribution patterns and interspecies relationships is a very effective way to explore the maintenance mechanism of species diversity in tropical forests. Dr. Lan Guoyu, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc., under the guidance of researcher Cao Min, took 20 major trees of 20 hectares in Xishuangbanna as research objects, analyzed the relationship between these tree species and habitat, the spatial distribution pattern of tree species and their different age stages Changes in the distribution pattern, while studying the correlation between these tree species.

The results show that: 14 of the 20 tree species show correlation with habitat; the distribution pattern of tree species is mainly cluster distribution, and it changes to a random distribution with increasing age; it is worth noting that on a small scale ( 0-10m), the correlation between most species is positive, which is different from the results of the study in Sri Lanka, indicating that in the maintenance mechanism of species diversity, Xishuangbanna tropical rain forest is different from Sri Lanka tropical rain forest The results prove that the species herd protection hypothesis (species herd protection) plays a very important role in maintaining the diversity of tropical rain forest species in Xishuangbanna.
