The relationship between freight forwarding and packaging

1. The basic role of packaging
There are three basic functions of packaging: protection, preservation and presentation. The packaging should serve to protect and preserve internal goods during storage and transport from the manufacturing plant to the consumer center. The protection of goods includes not only the prevention of loss, damage and theft, but also the prevention of moisture, fire, high temperature or low temperature, gas, insects, etc., contamination and other natural risks of the goods, depending on the nature of the goods. The role of packaging in the introduction of goods depends mainly on the form, involving factors such as size, shape, color, decoration, grade, name, and so on. Packaging should also comply with international standards and comply with international regulations and relevant national regulations.

2. The responsibility of the freight forwarder for packaging and marking
The freight forwarder itself may not be directly responsible for packaging and marking. However, some large freight forwarders have their own packaging department that can provide services for exporters. In any case, the freight forwarder's advice and guidance are extremely valuable to exporters. Freight forwarders can also recommend efficient and reliable packaging workers to exporters. In some countries there are also specialized institutions such as packing associations. Internationally, the International Trade Center (ITC), a UN agency based in Geneva, can assist with export packaging. The International Trade Center also develops regional plans to strengthen the development of export packaging associations.
