In terms of technical standards, due to the special nature of drugs and the specialization characteristics of Braille, the braille labeling on pharmaceutical packaging and instructions requires special technical standards to support, while China also has technical standards for drug information Braille translation and Braille printing . There is a gap.
In terms of actual production, Braille labeling has higher requirements on packaging materials. The thickness, elongation, retraction coefficient and wear resistance of printing materials must meet certain standards, which inevitably increases production costs. In addition, the Braille labeling also puts forward certain requirements for the packaging, storage and transportation environment, conditions, etc., in order to avoid the phenomenon of retraction or damage of the braille. In general, printing Braille labels on pharmaceutical packaging will increase production costs by 3% to 5%.
In the context of no mandatory requirements in the country and no standard guidelines and policy preferences, it is difficult for pharmaceutical companies to have enough will and motivation to participate in this work.
