Febtop enhances reality for 3D modeling with FEBCAD AR technology

Although 3D printing has many advantages that cannot be ignored, it also has a huge disadvantage: when it comes to design, its learning process is very difficult, which is undoubtedly a huge obstacle to the promotion of 3D printing. Many companies are working hard to make 3D printing design easier. The Swedish company Febtop has found a very effective solution, they are currently working on their febcad AR application, a smartphone-based app that allows users to design in a basic shape in a real-world environment.

This interesting concept was born a year ago and was developed by a team led by Tom Yang and Simon Karlsson. Yang has always liked 3D printing, although he has not found his favorite 3D printer . So, two years ago, Yang teamed up with Swedish physicist and senior producer Simon Karlsson to work together for this concept.

Although initially they focused on making a 3D printer, Yang said: "When we look at some users who don't have 3D printing experience using our 3D printers, we often see them trying to learn 3D modeling software or computer aided design programs. We quickly realized that we must find a way to make this learning process more natural."

“We decided to start with the phone, because most people have a phone, which makes it seem a very logical choice. We want the software to be truly usable, and users can easily draw simple designs instead of a useless one. Shantou. The challenge we face now is how to add more features while keeping the interface clean and not crowded."

So how does febcad AR work? In short, you won't need to do 3D design on the web, just operate on your phone. With this app, you can draw basic shapes (boxes, cylinders, pyramids, spheres, vertebral bodies, etc.) on the table in front of you, and you can change the angle, size, etc. at will.

Users can also squeeze the drawn 2D shape to the 3D shape by hand, and also freely rotate the object, flexibly change the shape around, and more importantly, the user can also import the STL file to view, "When you think your design has been completed You can simply export the STL format of the 3D printed model." The manufacturer said, "Using AR technology, we are working hard to reduce the barriers of learning for new designers and manufacturers. We are working with schools and educators. The learning threshold for 3D printing is getting lower and lower, making it easier to learn."

This interesting design solution has been running internally for three months and is ready to be available for Android devices in the initial stages. Febtop currently has two 3D printers: Optimus and Nimo3D printers - users will be able to transfer their 3D print designs directly to the two 3D printers via the App.
