How To Package Rabbit Hay – The Packaging Doctor

How to Package Rabbit Hay – The Packaging Doctor

By Carl Board • Wednesday 23rd December 2015

With Christmas just days away, it has been an exciting yet busy time for our team at The Surgery. We've been helping customers with all sorts of questions about how to protect their goods during this high-volume season. One particular query caught my attention — not because it was complicated, but because it involved something close to my heart: our furry friends.

At Kite, we believe in providing you with the right tools and knowledge to make your packaging process as smooth as possible. That includes making sure that products for pets like rabbits are delivered safely and in perfect condition. It's been a while since I've worked on solutions for the animal food industry, so this was a welcome challenge.

Today, I met a customer who runs a business selling rabbit hay and was looking for better storage and packaging options. He had been using polythene bags, but they weren't working well in cold weather. Condensation was ruining his product, and he was desperate for a solution.

Dear Doctor,

I sell and store a large amount of rabbit hay and have been using polythene bags for storage. However, they don’t hold up well in the cold and condensation is causing the hay to go bad. I’ve been searching for a better option and would really appreciate your help.

Thank you,

John

Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out. I completely understand your frustration. Polythene bags can be great for some uses, but when it comes to storing or transporting hay, especially in colder conditions, they’re not the best choice.

Here at Kite, we always aim to provide practical, effective solutions. For your situation, I recommend using Double Wall Cardboard Boxes with Hand Holes. These boxes are sturdy and designed to handle heavier items. Once the hay is inside, the hand holes on the sides will make it easier to carry during transport.

But there’s another benefit — the hand holes also allow for air circulation inside the box, which helps prevent condensation from forming. This means your rabbit hay will stay dry and fresh, even in chilly weather.

This simple switch could make a big difference for your business. I hope this works well for you!

Best wishes,

The Packaging Doctor
