Study on High Adhesion and Superhydrophobic Properties of Peanut Leaf Surface and Its Bionic Preparation

Abstract: Peanuts are a common leguminous crop. Unlike lotus leaves with low adhesion and super-hydrophobicity, the surface of peanut leaves has both super-hydrophobic and high-adhesion properties. The contact angle of water droplets on the surface of peanut leaves is 151 ± 2 °, showing Super-hydrophobic properties. In addition, the water droplets can be firmly attached to the surface of the peanut leaf, turning the peanut leaf 90 ° or even 180 °, the water droplets will not roll off the surface, showing good adhesion (adhesive force exceeds 80 μN). It was found that the surface of the peanut leaf showed a micro-nano multi-level structure, and the hilly micro-structure surface had irregularly arranged nano-structures. The special micro-nano multi-scale structure on the surface of the peanut leaf was the key factor for its surface to exhibit high adhesion and superhydrophobic properties. Based on the data, the mechanism of the special wetting of the surface of the peanut leaf is briefly described. Inspired by this, the polydimethylsiloxane complex is used to obtain a highly adherent hydrophobic surface similar to the microstructure of the surface of the peanut leaf. Adhering to super-hydrophobic surfaces provides new ideas.
