Digital Presentation: Development Trends in the Printing Industry

The year 2003 is the third year of China's "Tenth Five-Year Plan" and is also the second year of China's accession to the WTO. In the past year, did China's printing industry and printing equipment manufacturing industry suffer external shocks? How is the development? This is a problem that many people worry about and care about.

At present, the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China has published the “Basic Situation of the National Press and Publication Industry in 2003”. Magazines such as “China Printing” and “Printing Machinery Dynamics” have reported the development of the printing industry and printing and manufacturing industries in the past year. From a large amount of data, we can be pleased to see that in 2003 our country's printing industry has continued to develop. China's printing equipment manufacturing industry continues to witness a booming production and sales, and a spectacular increase in economic benefits.

First of all, from the General Administration of Press and Publication, China’s new approval for the establishment of 84 foreign-funded printing companies in 2003, and a number of foreign-funded enterprises applying for capital increase; 2477 new domestic printing companies, compared with 2002 printing companies The total number has increased by about 3%. This shows that China's printing industry has more room for development.

Secondly, from the “Basic Situation of the National Press and Publication Industry in 2003”, the total number of printed books, periodicals, and newspapers published nationwide in 2003 was 180.693 billion copies, equivalent to 4,185,900 tons of paper. Compared with 2002, the amount of paper used increased. 10.75%, of which books accounted for 14.11% of paper, textbooks accounted for 11.77%, journals accounted for 6.13%, newspapers accounted for 67.89%.

In 2003, a total of 190,391 books were published nationwide. Compared with 170,962 species in 2002, it has increased by 11.4%. The total number of printed sheets is 46,222 million, which is an increase of 1.3% compared with 2002.

In 2003, a total of 9,074 kinds of periodicals were published in the country, an increase of 43 kinds compared with 9,029 in 2002. The total number of printed sheets was 17.8 billion sheets, 2.58% more than in 2002.

In 2003, a total of 2,119 newspapers were published nationwide. Compared with 2002, there were 18 kinds of reductions, but the total number of printed sheets reached 12.35 billion sheets, an increase of 15.76% from 106.783 billion sheets of printed sheets in 2002.

It is particularly pointed out here that in the formulation of the “10th Five-Year Plan”, the Press and Publication Administration aims to increase the printing of books from 32,621 million printed sheets to 44.2 billion printed sheets, from 100.04 printed sheets to 11 billion printed sheets, and from 76.3 billion newspapers. Stamps increased to 107.7 billion sheets. However, from the basic situation of the nation’s press and publication industry in 2003, the total printing volume of books, periodicals, and newspapers in China is expected to reach the goal to be achieved in the “Tenth Five-Year Plan”. In 2003, it had already reached and fully exceeded the target. The above situation shows that the total amount of printing in the country is increasing every year, and the printing industry in China is developing every year.

The development of the printing industry has provided a vast market for printing machinery manufacturing. First of all, according to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China on imported printing equipment, in 2003 China imported 933 sheetfed offset presses, an increase of 19% over 785 in 2002. The amount of imports surged from US$33.72 million to US$0.5695 million, an increase of 49.2%. This is the largest number of imported offset presses in China since the beginning of the year, with an average of one imported per 100 printing plants.

At the same time, 131 imported web offset presses were reduced by 24 units compared to 2002, but the value and technical content of imported web offset presses in 2003 were higher than in 2002. The amount of imports in 2003 was 70.05 million US dollars, in 2003 it was 126.4 million US dollars, an increase of 80%.

In 2003, with more than 1,000 imported offset presses, the domestic printer manufacturers responded positively, continuously improved their operating mechanisms, improved corporate management, adjusted product mix, strengthened scientific research, continuously developed new products, and strived to improve product quality. Doing a good job as a user's service has led to a booming production and sales phenomenon in the domestic printing machine manufacturing industry, and the economic benefits have increased substantially.

According to the completion of the major economic indicators of 42 printing machine manufacturers, the sales of their products reached 4.0847 billion yuan in 2003, an increase of 8.1% over 2002, and the total profit increased by 33.9% from 2002. Some key enterprises have made outstanding achievements.

Beiren Group completed sales revenue of RMB 1.1227 billion in 2003, an increase of 11.7% over 2002.

Shanghai Printing and Packaging Machinery Co., Ltd. completed sales revenue of 1.462 billion yuan in 2003, an increase of 11.6% over 2002.

Shanghai Goss Printing Equipment Co., Ltd. currently has an average gross industrial output growth rate of 58.4, an average growth rate of sales revenue of 29.6%, a total profit of 59.7, and a comprehensive index of economic efficiency of 418.3. It is the first of 42 key enterprises in the country. (Author: Yangfang Ming)
