Easy Felt Halloween costumes for dolls

The girls have always enjoyed creating costumes for their dolls, and this year, despite not being able to go trick-or-treating or host a Halloween party at home, at least our dolls can still have a festive time. We crafted these simple costumes using colored felt, which turned out to be versatile enough to fit dolls of various sizes. A few years back, we even made Halloween outfits for the Lottie dolls. As I sat down with the girls to prepare the materials, we gathered all the necessary supplies—orange and dark green felt for the pumpkin costume, purple and black felt for the spider, and black felt for the cat suit. We also had some googly eyes and fabric glue on hand. It was such a cozy afternoon, filled with creativity and laughter. To start, we worked on the pumpkin costume. Cutting out a pumpkin shape from the orange felt and folding it in half made it easier to trace and cut around the doll's body. After cutting holes for the head and arms, we stitched the sides together while leaving gaps for the arms. For the finishing touch, we cut out spooky shapes like triangular eyes and a jagged mouth from the dark green felt and glued them onto the pumpkin. Next up was the spider costume. Folding the purple felt in half, we cut out a circular shape that connected at the top, leaving space for the doll's head. From the black felt, we cut out spindly legs and carefully stitched them into the sides. Adding a cheerful smile and attaching googly eyes brought the spider to life. The cat suit was equally fun to create. Tracing the outline of one of the doll's dresses onto black felt gave us the perfect base for the outfit. To add a touch of whimsy, we glued a white felt oval onto the tummy and crafted cat ears from the same material. For an extra accessory, we made a pumpkin-shaped bag. Cutting two orange circles and sewing them together at the bottom created the base of the bag. A dark green strip served as the handle, and with a fabric pen, we drew a cheerful face on the front. Lastly, we transformed conkers into miniature pumpkins. With just a couple of googly eyes and a sharpie for the mouth, these tiny treasures became adorable additions to our collection. Looking at old pictures of the twins and their dolls reminded me of how quickly time passes. In this image from four years ago, they look so small and innocent, already immersed in their imaginative world of dolls and costumes. It’s heartwarming to see their love for crafting continue to grow. Now, with these new creations, our dolls are ready to celebrate Halloween in style. It’s moments like these that remind me of the joy found in simple, handmade projects and the lasting memories they create.
