Wild bamboo

In southern China's mountainous regions, there are various kinds of bamboos. If you can grasp the various ways of using bamboo, you will benefit greatly from field activities. Here are some ways to use bamboo in the wild.

Filling water: The bamboo with a larger diameter is cut into a bamboo tube of 1.5-2 meters in diameter, and each bamboo section of the bamboo tube is pierced with a long sharpened wooden stick and becomes a container for water. This bamboo tube is suitable for water intake when the camp is far away from the water source. Small bamboo can also be used to make a small water container, and it can be carried around with a stopper.

Make a pot: bamboo with a diameter of 5 cm or more, cut it into a 60-80 cm long bamboo tube, and have a well-preserved bamboo knot at one end of the bamboo tube. Using banana or winter leaf (a plant in the tropical jungle), roll a cylinder equal to the length of the bamboo tube into a bamboo tube, pour the washed rice into the tube, and inject clean water. 15 cm, use a leaf or banana leaf to jam the bamboo tube, and tilt the bamboo tube upwards on the fire to cook. Because of water heat transfer, the bamboo tube will not burn out. Usually cooked rice for 40 minutes. When using bamboo tube to cook rice, it is necessary to turn the bamboo tube to make it evenly heated. If banana leaf or winter leaf is not to be lining in the tube, it can also be used for cooking. After the rice is cooked, it is necessary to use a knife to cut off the part of the bamboo tube. Bamboo can be removed in half to remove the rice. The method of boiling water with a bamboo tube is similar to burning. If you need to stir while cooking, you can use a wooden stick longer than bamboo.

To make cups and pots: Cut a moderately thick bamboo about 15 centimeters in length, leaving a bamboo knot at one end and a 45-degree bevel at the other end. Use a knife to smooth the surface and turn it into a cup for drinking water or soup. If the bamboo sticks at the bamboo festival are left during the production process, a spoon can be made. Leave knots on both ends of the large bamboo tube. Cut from one third of the bamboo tube, it is a very good bamboo bowl with a ladle.

To make a bed: in a damp place, you can cut some thick bamboo, cut it into a two-meter long bamboo tube, and use a machete to cut the bamboo knot in each bamboo knot. When cutting, it should be noted that the knives of each knot should not be on the same line. After each bamboo knot has been cut, use a knife to cut the bamboo tube from one side of the bamboo tube and press it to get a bamboo strip. Two to three bamboo rafts (depending on bamboo size) can be made into a bed. If there is no big bamboo, use bamboo roots, paved one by one, and use a rattan or bamboo sticks to secure the bed.

Bale: Select the less-old bamboo, draw out the tough bamboo skin, and cut it into appropriate thickness according to your needs. It is a bamboo basket and used for the bale. Bamboo strands woven from multiple strands of bamboo can be used to climb the cliffs.

Firing: The bamboo skin is oily and extremely flammable. When dry firelighters are not found in the wild when it rains, the surface of the bamboo can be raked and the skin of the bamboo can be scraped into filaments with a knife as a firelighter.

In addition to the above several uses, bamboo can also be used to make a variety of catchers that catch animals.
