New Weekly: Why Climb? The Birth of a Spirit

What we want is not to challenge the limits. It is a kind of physical and mental experience; what we want from the mountains is no longer tragic, no longer a sacrifice, no longer conquering and suffering, but a joy in the process. The new concept of climbing was born.

Humans ran in the mountains from the era of blood drinking. They were chasing prey and dressed. Later, people met the need for survival, but they followed the inertia of climbing, trying to embark on the peak to conquer nature. At this time, it was a desire to satisfy, or, is the need of interest.

So why are we climbing today?

“That was not the glory we imagined,” said John Hunt, who climbed Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth, describing his climbing team. “It is human conquest of nature—the honour of transcending oneself.” When he said these words Next to them were several Nepalese Sherpas who lived at the foot of Mount Everest. They were puzzled by the puzzled eyes. It was difficult to understand why these people were so excited to know that they were the numerous climbers who came from all over the world all year round. Carry yak, carry equipment, walk on this familiar mountain trail. This is their life.

In order to seek an answer, Jamling, son of another famous mountaineer, Tenzing, like his father, climbed Mount Everest in 1996. "It's best to approach him with respect and humility," he later wrote. "In front of Mount Everest, human beings are only its audience at most, just a poor moment."

Each mountain will treat people who come to it on an equal footing. The “conqueror” has left blood, limbs and even life on its body. Hill does not understand. Doesn't it stand on its head that it really means a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction?

From the fear of nature, the admiration of nature to the use of nature, the conquest of nature, with the strengthening of human power, people change the relationship between man and nature. But the power of one side means that the other side is damaged. People begin to reflect and seek a balance and harmony.

An Ethiopian boy living in a poor mountainous area runs barefoot every day for tens of kilometers on rugged mountain roads and climbs over several mountain beams to deliver goods to others. Later he was invited to participate in the competition. He took the championship for the first time. Others asked him how he could run so fast. He said: "Because this is the first time I have put on my shoes to run on the ground." Later, he became a world champion, but he gave up his best 5,000-meter run and chose a marathon. Someone asked him why he did not do the easiest thing for him. He said, "Because I want to challenge myself!" Now, he is no longer participating in a commercial competition, but he is still running, and others do not understand it. He leisurely said: "I am enjoying life."

The truth of life is always understood after hardships. The understanding of mountaineering is also such a process. Almost all the peaks above 8000 meters above the earth have left the footprints of climbers, and various flags have fluttered on top of one another. The momentary gratification brought about by the conquest will soon be replaced by exhaustion and unrestrainedness, just as it would be after every overused injury.

What we want is not to challenge the limits, but a physical and mental experience. The new concept of climbing was born.

Hill is not about the advantages and disadvantages of tall and short, climbers do not win or lose at the summit. Enjoy the process of climbing, experience life through your own experience, or learn about the customs of the inhabitants under the mountain, or persevere in the mountainside with self-persuasion. Who can say that they are not true climbers?

Going to a mountain is like getting to know someone and getting to know a person, it's like going to visit one of your distant friends. When you meet him, you will try to knock him down, conquer him (her), or greet him (her) affectionately, and hug him (her) tightly?

Advertising says that good things should be shared with good friends. Mountain has shown its beautiful appearance, its good character, and its sometimes violent temperament in front of you. How to accept it depends entirely on your attitude.

Experiential climbing is not a submission to nature, and it is not a compromise of one's weakness. It is a rationality after the heavens, the earth, and the people. What we want from the mountains is no longer tragic, no longer a sacrifice, no longer conquering and suffering, but a joy in the process.
