Carton, carton structural design software and operation introduction

At present, computer-aided design (CAD) technology has been widely applied in various industries. Many industries have developed their own CAD technologies, such as mechanical CAD, architectural CAD, and so on. Packaging industry is no exception, many large software companies at home and abroad are committed to the development of packaging CAD software, there have been many sets of cartons, carton structural design software, such as: Barco's aristoCAD, ip's score software, Bangyou ( HoyoTech) company's carton. Carton design and processing software. This paper mainly uses the paper box and carton structural design application software of Bangyou Company as an example to introduce the function and application of the box type design software.
Boxer design software includes 2 applications: Box-Vellum and FoldUp! 3D. Box-Vellum is used in cartons. The structural design of the carton, complete folding carton, tubular carton. Design, dimensioning, box-type output, splicing, die-cutting, cutting and other operations of trays, envelopes, fixed cartons, corrugated boxes, etc.; FoldUp! 3D is a 3D presentation software that can speed up the packaging. Envelopes, folders, or other design processes that contain folded structure products. This software allows designers to see the true effect of packaging design in the shortest time, without spending time and money to make physical samples.
Carton and carton design and processing software (Box-Vellum)
1. Box-Vellure panel
Tool panel includes selection of target tool, linear tool, arc, circle, ellipse, polygon. Curve generation tools, insert text tools, corner tools, line editing tools, graphics operation tools, zoom tools and other 12 tools, the use of tools on the tool panel can quickly and accurately complete the structure design of various cartons, cartons.
2. Box-Vellum menu
After the designer uses the tools in the tool panel to complete the structural design, the specific functions in the menu need to be selected to complete the operations such as dimensioning and box type output. The entire user interface consists of files, edits, layouts, and arrangements. Pen, text. Callouts, views. Tools, user box management. Die-cutting, arranging, drawing, and extension tools. Help consists of 15 menus. The functions of these menus take full account of all the details of the design and the output process, helping designers to design the most accurate structural drawings. Only some of the main menus and specific operations are described here.
(1) File> Output
Select File > Output. You can select the appropriate output format after you finish drawing the structure diagram. For example: Vellum file format output is *. Dxf file format, you can open the file under AutoCAD, so that users without the software can also open the structure diagram. It is also possible to export a well-designed box file into a readable file format such as CorelDraw or PhotoShop for further design. The menu interface is shown in Figure 1.
(2) File> Conversion
The File > Conversion menu provides a list of file formats that the software can import and export. The "Input Format" refers to the file format that the software can read from outside, including 16 types such as Vellum, MetaFiles, Bitmaps, DWF, DXF, EPS, and so on: "Output format" refers to the file format that the software can output, including 16 formats such as Vellum, proofing, metaFiles, DWF, and DXF. This menu item improves the versatility of box-type graphic files drawn by different software and extends the scope of application of the software.
(3) Edit > Parsing
This menu item is used to check the size of the tool. If no error message is displayed, the parsing succeeds, and the graphic can be parameterized. If an error message appears, the graphic has an error and needs to be corrected.
(4) Typesetting> Layers
Its main function is to control the graphics of the design annotation and display/hide the graphics as required. as shown in picture 2. Cut and Cut2 are cut line layers, Crease is an indentation line layer, and Dimension is a label line layer.
(5) Annotation > Display Panel
Select this menu item to complete the dimensioning of the entire graphic, including various annotation tools, such as horizontal and vertical annotation tools. Radius annotation tools, etc.
(6) Extended tool menus provide many special features.
Extension Tools > Show Ear Page Board to generate a variety of ear pages, as shown in Figure 3. By inputting the corresponding parameters through the parameter setting column, the required ear pages are generated at one time, and the annotation is automatically completed at the same time, which reduces the designer's workload and saves the design time.
Extension Tool > The length tool between two points. The main purpose of this tool is to measure the size of the graphics, and it is widely used for design and proof output.
Extension Tools > Simple A-boxes are automatically generated. The main function of this tool is to automatically generate A-boxes. Enter the corresponding parameters in the window, click OK, and then click the "graphical" button, then automatically generate a box type.
Expansion Tools > Automatic Bridging, the main function of which is to set up the bridge for laser opening and to prepare for laser opening.
The extended tool > transfer tool panel between layers mainly controls the lines of the structure chart, completes the setting of the die cutting line and the indentation line, and then the graphic can be output on the proofer. The proofer cuts or indents by recognizing the color of the box line.
(7) Matching
This menu is fully functional and can be used for proofing. There are 4 ways to save paper when output.
In addition, Box-vellum comes with a box library, which contains a large number of various types of box structure diagrams, users can choose from the library directly to meet the requirements of the box type. If the user has designed a boxed sample that does not exist in the box library. The new design box can be stored in order to enrich the box library. These operations can be done through the user box type management menu.
3. Box structure output
The designed box structure can be output to the printer. Cartridge cutters or die-cutting laser cutters can also be arranged. If you want to output to the cassette cutter, you need to perform the following operations: output> selected machine, select the type of cutter configured by the system; determine the output sequence according to the design of the structure; finally in the "output" panel to determine the output position, click The "output button" allows the data to be accurately transmitted to the cutting machine. If you want to focus on the output, in order to determine the best way to fight, you have to select and control the way of arranging in the arranging panel. After you determine the arranging mode, click “calculate” to get the arranging chart. If you want to output to a die-cut version of the laser cutter, select Expand Tools > AutoBridge, select the bridging rule, and click "Execute". The result will be executed. If you are not satisfied with the bridging results, you can choose a bridging tool to modify it.
4. Design example
The two diagrams in Figure 4 are box-type structures designed using Box-Vellum software. The green line is the indentation line and the black line is the die-cut line.

FoldUp! 3D 3D Presentation Software
Before the appearance of the 3D effect demo software, it was very troublesome to make the packing box entity or make the simulation model. Unless you have an expensive cutting machine, you can only manually cut and fold the sample with a cutting knife. With 3D effect presentation software such as FoldUp! 3D, the graphic design can be transformed into a realistic 3D package with just a few mouse clicks, making it easy for designers and users to check the design results in a timely manner.
FoldUp! 3D is available in Adobe Illustrator as a plug-in. To install and use the software, you must first install Adobe Illustrator and determine the version of FoldUp! 3D based on the Adobe Illustrator version (FoldUp! 3D8, FoldUp! 3D9, FoldUp 3D10). FoldUp! 3D's menus and dialogs share the same style as Illustrator. Here are the features of FoldUp! 3D.
To use the FoldUp! 3D menu, you must first start Adobe Illustrator, then select the FoldUp! 3D submenu in the window menu to open the FoldUp! 3D control panel in the Illustrator window.
FoldUp! 3D uses 5 control panels for parameter design and process control of the demonstration process.
Fold the control panel to control the folding process of the design scheme. Use this panel to set the crease line and folding angle. Folding order, select the base to be set; layer mapping control panel, design different line types as different layers, such as tangent layer, fold line layer; display control panel, control the progress of the three-dimensional effect demonstration process, environment , light source, background and other parameters; data inspection control panel for vertex, line segment, plane display mode and demonstration mode; material feature control panel for selecting material type, such as paper jam. Corrugated cardboard. Single-faced corrugated board, you can also set the thickness of the material. Note that when set to the default value, the material type is paper jam and the material thickness is 0.1mm. Through these 5 control panels, FoldUp! 3D can do a lot of tedious work: carry out graphic design (package decoration design), test design data, set folding parameters, set material feature values, preview 3D effects and output. FoldUp! 3D supports the same output file formats as Illustrator, including AI, JPG, TIFF, BMP, EPS, and more. (Author: Yu Jiang Wumin wisdom and g)
