The quality of the corrugation teeth directly affects the thickness and overall quality of the corrugated board produced. Therefore, the corrugating roll must be highly resistant to wear and maintain its shape over time to ensure consistent and high-quality output. Traditionally, when the surface of the corrugating roll became worn, the common repair method involved applying a standard hard chrome coating. However, this approach had limited effectiveness in terms of wear resistance and durability. Now, a new solution has emerged in the form of a silicon carbide-chromium nanoceramic-coated corrugating roll. This advanced coating technology significantly improves performance and longevity. The manufacturing process involves applying a 0.08 mm to 0.10 mm thick silicon carbide-chromium nanoceramic coating onto the working surface of the corrugating roll substrate. The coating consists of three distinct layers: the first layer forms an ion diffusion layer that bonds strongly with the substrate; the second layer serves as a base layer that connects to the first; and the outermost layer is the silicon carbide-chromium nanoceramic coating, which provides superior hardness and wear resistance. This innovative technology offers up to three times better wear resistance compared to traditional hard chrome coatings. As a result, the service life of the corrugating roll is significantly extended, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. It also enhances production efficiency and lowers overall operational expenses, making it a valuable upgrade for manufacturers in the packaging industry.
